2018 EA Tinto, Cartuxa, Alentejano, Portugal, Vinho Regional Alentejano
The Cartuxa vineyard is the main activity of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation.
The quality of all Cartuxa wines is due to the quality of its grapes. They have a multitude of plots spread over the places known as Pinheiros, Casito, Álamo da Horta and Valbom. The estate has over 400 hectares of land. Each plot is cultivated separately, taking into account the age of the vines, the variety planted and the structure of the soil, keeping in mind for which wines the grapes are to be used.
Since the 1980s, the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation has contributed to the advancement of research by opening its doors and collaborating with several institutions, including the regional university of Evora.
The Alentejo covers a large part of southern Portugal. This huge region contains 8 DOCs (Denominacão de Origen Controlada). The main red varieties are Aragonês, Trincadeira, Castelão, Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet and Syrah. The white varieties are Arinto, Antão Vaz and Roupeiro.
