2021 Viognier, Château Burgozone, Danube, Bulgary, Danube Plain PGI
Château Burgozone is one of the few Bulgarian wineries located in immediate proximity of their own vineyards. It is perched on the very bank of the Danube River, over the picturesque island of Esperanto where it bears the name and the spirit of the Roman fortress which was situated on the border of the vineyard complex and provided protection to the Roman Empire from the North. It is located in the vicinity of the town of Oryahovo on loess soils, with geographic coordinates similar to those of Tuscany, Côtes-du-Rhône and Bordeaux, with as ideal ecological conditions as those world-famous European wine producing regions.
On the highest Bulgarian bank of the Danube - between 140 and 220 m of altitude - on extremely rugged terrain, in close proximity to a nature preserve and a Natura Zone, Château Burgozone's lands sprawl on 150 ha, of which 100 ha of new fruit-bearing vineyards. The planted French varieties found excellent soil and climatic conditions and for six years now they have been demonstrating minerality and incredible fertility garnished with exotic spices. On the northern slope, the white grape varieties as the Chardonnay, the Sauvignon Blanc and the Viognier face the Danube, whereas the Pinot Noir, the Merlot, the Cabernet Franc, the Cabernet Sauvignon, the Syrah, the Egiodola and the attractive Marselan share the southern slope.
