1998 Château Jeandeman, Bordeaux, France, Fronsac
Château Jeandeman is situated in the area of Fronsac. Down through the centuries, Fronsac wines have always been an intrinsic part of the select club of great wines famous worldwide. Professor Henri Enjalbert, a renowned geographer, talked of the terroir as being « the cradle of the great Libourne and Bordeaux wines » and as « the sacred hillside of the region ».
Château Jeandeman, perched at a height of 88 metres on the highest point of the Fronsac region, overlooks the valley of the Isle and Dordogne rivers. It has a total of 33 hectares of vines, planted in an exceptional terroir bathed in sunshine. Its limestone and clay-limestone soils benefit from a rare characteristic, namely the ferric oxide which gives Jeandeman a unique and much sought-after touch.
The majority of the Jeandeman vineyard is planted with Merlot grapes (90%), an early-ripening variety ideally suited to the clay soils. Fining during 12 to 15 months in barrels.
