2009 Marqués de Velilla Crianza, , Spain, Ribera del Duero DO
Marqués de Velilla is located on the harsh and rugged terrain close to the River Duero. With its extreme and contrasting climate, it produces powerful and complex wines with inimitable character and personality.
Study shows that the soils are mainly made up of clay, gravel, sand and limestone. This mixture brings different tasting characteristics to the wines:
• power is given by the clay,
• delicacy and finesse by the gravel and sand,
• and depth and great complexity by the limestone.
Marqués de Velilla Crianza is an intense, elegant wine that leaves its mark. It is very aromatic and expressive with a perfect integration of fruit and wood. It has the complexity and seriousness of the classic wines of Ribera del Duero. This wine is the result of painstaking work at the vineyard and in the winery based on a respect for the personality of the terroir. This is in fact their prime goal.
The wine is composed of 100% Tempranillo (local name is Tinto del Païs) from the La Picona, El Frescal and El Charcón de las Palomas estates. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, followed for 12 more months in the bottle, allowing it to reach its optimal evolution.
Crianza : A term used for Spanish wine that has been aged in oak at least 1 year and in the bottle 12-18 months.
