Camilo Leite, active in the international wine trade, created Opta in 2013. He launched a partnership with winemaker Nuno Cancela de Abreu with the aim of promoting Portuguese wines around the world. Their goal is to offer a new option to those who wish to enjoy Portuguese products. Opta stands out for the very patriotic side of the brand, as its name, Opta, derived from the word option, is intended to invite the customer to opt for what is Portuguese.
The Dão appellation is located in the province of Beira Alta in central Portugal. It's a mountainous region and the vineyards are planted at an altitude of between 200 m and 700 m. The climate is ideal, with cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers with large temperature differences between day and night.
The main grape varieties are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Alfrocheiro Preto in red and Encruzado and Malvasia Fina in white.
