2011 Brouilly, Joseph Drouhin, Beaujolais, France, Brouilly
With its 73 hectares (182.5 acres), the Joseph Drouhin Domaine is one of the largest estates in the region. It owns vineyards in all of Burgundy: Chablis (38 hectares - 95 acres), Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, (32 hectares - 80 acres) and Côte Chalonnaise (3 hectares - 7.5 acres). It is comprised of a majority of Premier and Grand Crus, planted with the two Burgundian grape varietals, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. However, they have some nice quality vineyards in Beaujolais. Here they use the Gamay as grape.
Brouilly is the cru of Beaujolais located most to the south, one of the most famous and the largest. The vines are planted on steep slopes. The soil is very diverse, evolving from granite to alluvial loams.
This wine is ann elegant Beaujolais, manually harvested and aged in tanks. The Mont Brouilly has the silhouette of a volcano, with a small chapel at the top! It was erected in 1857 to place the vineyard under the protection of the Virgin
