2001 Château Haut-Sarpe, Janoueix, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, Bordeaux, France, Saint-Emilion
Family Joseph Janoueix is the owner of Château Haut-Sarpe, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé. It is one of the great houses of the Libournais. It is also known as a producer and as a trader-farmer. Exposed at the border and along the limestone plateau, this vineyard is one of the oldest and one of the most justly renowned Saint-Emilion.
Awarded a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867, it remains worthy of the efforts and successes of Baron Henri Foussat, at that time the owner. It is also at this time that, encouraged by his success, he undertook the reconstruction of the castle and the redevelopment of the park.
This edifice of great style, with its central pavilion inspired by the Trianon, looks good and is consistent with the spirit of this wine, Grand Cru Classé, and very representative of the development of Saint-Emilion wine at the beginning of the century and tradition that symbolizes quality, today as yesterday, the children and grandchildren of Marie-Antoinette and Joseph Janoueix.
Vineyard area: 21.5 hectares. Maturing in oak barrels for 18 months (100% new).
