2001 Château Moulinet, Bordeaux, Spain, Pomerol

The Château Moulinet is situated in the northwest of the Pomerol appellation and 2 km in direct flight from centre of Pomerol, in a haven of greenery that seems to invite guests to rest and contemplate. It is the property of Marie-José and Nathalie Moueix, the descendants of Armand Moueix, famous sports figure in Libourne. They are advized by Yannick Le Menn, oenologist who prefers rigor and sobriety to fireworks and glitter.

The 22 hectare estate, located on soils of clay and pebbles, is dominated by Merlot, the flagship grape of the appellation, which covers 60% of the total, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon 30% and Cabernet franc for the remaining 10%.

The harvest is done manually and last six days, with about 60 people in a festive and friendly atmosphere. In the cellars, stainless steel and wood are present with recourse to carbondioxide to favorize better extractions. The wine is aged during 18 months on French Barrels, from which 45 % are renewed every year. Vines are 40 years old.
