2004 Clos du Roi, Domaine Chanson, Burgundy, France, Beaune 1er Cru, Clos du Roi

In 1999 Chanson Pere & Fils is integrated in the family group around Bollinger Champagne. This group of family domains brings together the best specialists in every area: Bollinger and Ayala Champagne, Langlois-Chateau in the Loire, Delamain in Cognac. A new team, with extensive experience in the major areas of the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, makes every effort to pursue high quality. Authenticity, letting the terroirs express themselves and a close partnership with the best winemakers of Burgundy contribute to this.

Recently, Jean-Pierre Confuron received the coveted title 'Winemaker of the Year 2014', awarded by the magazine 'Revue du Vin de France' in the context of their wine trophies. After the selection of Chanson by the American magazine 'Wine & Spirit' as one of the 100 best producers in the world, this award is yet another testimony of the expertise and know-how of the Domaine Chanson.

The vineyard Clos du Roi is located below Les Marconnets on a fold in the hill. This old property of the Dukes of Burgundy was annexed by King Louis XI of France after the death of Charles the Bold. Chanson owns around 3 ha, i.e. 35% of the total climat appellation. 2/3 of the surface owned by Chanson is planted with Pinot Noir. The soil is composed of limestone with clay with a light structure.

The harvest 2004 took place at the end of September after a cool and humid summer with short periods of very hot weather. The “tri", sorting of the grapes was drastic to keep only the very ripe berries. The combination of strictly controlled yields and a meticulous vinification process played a major part in the quality of the vintage. Aging in casks during 15 months.
Composed of 100 % Pinot Noir.
