2008 Château La Nerthe, Côtes-du-Rhône, France, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
La Nerthe belongs to the absolute top wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and is, with Beaucastel, without any doubt the best known domain of this famous region.
La Nerthe has a very long history. In 1560 that the domain was founded with the arrival of the family Tulle de Villefranche. Since 1985 it is owned by the Richard family.
The vineyards contain many rocks. The owners have been working long since with a lot of respect for nature. At Chateau La Nerthe they also have been organically certified by Ecocert since 1998. The grapes are handpicked so that only the best grapes are used to produce the best wines, after a rigorous selection process.
The vines have an average age of 40 years. The wines are aged in small barrels for 42% and for 58% in large wooden barrels.
The result is a refined Chateauneuf-du-Pape with character, touted by many wine writers. The two journalisti copponents Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson, agree that La Nerthe belongs to the absolute top in the wine world.
