2001 Côte-Rôtie Gilles Barges Cuvee du Plessy 375 ml, Côtes-du-Rhône, France, Côte-Rôtie
Gilles Barge is one of the best winemakers in the region, known for its fine wines. The vineyards of the Côte-Rôtie are located on the right bank of the Rhone, at the opposite of the city of Vienne, south of Lyon. It is one of the most prestigious vineyards in the world. Wine is produced here for over 2400 years .
This vineyard is optimally oriented to the southwest. The vines captures the sun all day long and the full exposure to the light stimulates perfectly the photosynthesis. The vineyard is built in terraces form and is rich in stone and flint, while small stone wall protects against erosion.
The Barge family owned since its start in 1860 approximately 6 hectares of vineyards. This vineyard of 4.5 hectares was purchased in 1979 and still bears the name of the former owner, Mr. Duplessy. The grapes come mainly from vineyards on the Côte Blonde.
Blend: Syrah 95% and 5% Viognier. Aging of 30 months in barrels. The soil is rich in pebbles.
