2010 Saga, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), Bordeaux, France, Bordeaux
Designed as an everyday wine, Saga Bordeaux Rouge is made from traditional Bordeaux grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The proportions of each vary with every vintage but, nature permitting, Cabernet Sauvignon is almost always the predominant grape variety, bringing finesse and structure. Vinification and ageing that are adapted to suit the weight and structure of the wines result in charm & suppleness and preserve complexity.
The result? A modern classic Bordeaux Rouge with the characteristic Lafite house-style.
The ageing of 9 months is done for 40 % on barrels, the rest on steel to preserve the freshness of the fruit.
The vintage 2010 was marked by a historic drought; this produced an average yield that was 15% lower than in 2009. However, this enhanced the overall quality of the wines, which were exceptionally rich in tannins, with high levels of alcohol balanced by strong acidity, giving the wines freshness and longevity. The 2010 Bordeaux reds are powerful, lively and balanced.
These wines have been produced by the team of Lafite-Rothschild with the same care as for the great wines of their domains.
