2009 Château La Grolet, Bordeaux, France, Côtes-de-Bourg
In the municipality of Saint-Ciers-De-Canesse, Château La Grolet extends over 54 hectares divided into 38 hectares of red vines and also in natural meadows, woods, streams and springs, a structure unchanged since centuries. With its vineyards divided into terraces and steep slopes , Château La Grolet is proud to carry the name Côtes de Bourg in a landscape worthy of the nickname "Little Switzerland in the Gironde ". The domain produces Bordeaux wines with a strong character of which the Château La Grolet - wines are witnessing.
The vineyards are located on steep slopes facing south with a clay-gravel soil. The young wine shows aromas of red fruits. After 5 years of aging, it expresses aromas of leather and cocoa combined with that ofred fruit which is still present. The tannins then become softer and the wine reveals its complexity. Grolet belongs to the Côtes de Bourg , where we generally spoken find strong tannins in the wines, but comments with professionals are unanimous : La Grolet offers a subtlety rarely seen in this appellation.
Is this the effect of the biodynamics, giving the wine its character and thus reflecting the great terroir?
