2007 Château La Tour Carnet, Grand Cru Classé, de Bernard Magrez, Bordeaux, France, Haut-Médoc
Château La Tour Carnet has its origins back in the twelfth century, which makes it the oldest Château du Médoc. Its architecture is of the medieval type with a tower built in 1120, surrounded by a moat. It has had famous owners including the family of Michel de Montaigne, one of the greatest French philosophers, author of the ‘Essays’, and twice Mayor of Bordeaux. The vineyard of Château La Tour Carnet has been established in the year 1407.
The average age of the vines is 30 years. The domain consists of 73 hectares of vines. The density is 8000 to 10 000 plants per hectare.
Strongly calcareous clay base covered with a thick layer of gravel. Hand harvested in small crates with first sorting in the vineyard. Aged in barrels of one wine on the lees for 18 months with regular bâtonnnages.
This is one of the best wines produced in 2007.
