2009 Hermitage - Yann Chave, Côtes-du-Rhône, France, Hermitage
The past history of the Hermitage region is rich. The Romans already enjoyed these wines under the name "wines of Vienna" (together with those of the Côte-Rôtie), then they took the name "hillside wines of Saint-Christophe," due to the presence of a chapel dedicated to this holy man. The domain of Yann Chave now covers 17.5 hectares at the east of Tain. Recognized as one of the best winemakers in the region. These wines are on the wine lists of the best restaurants of Alain Ducasse, Paul Bocuse, Troisgros. The average age of the vines is 20 years. The harvest is manual and a very severe selection is performed to ensure the highest quality of grapes. They only use native ferments to trigger fermentation. Aging on half barrels of 600 litres for about 12 months.
