Domaine Les Clos Maurice is a family-run wine estate located in the village of Varrains, in the heart of the Saumur Champigny appellation in the Loire region. Covering around 21 hectares, the estate produces a variety of wines, including Saumur Champigny, Saumur Blanc, Crémant de Loire, Saumur Rouge and Saumur Rosé.
Since 1997, the estate has been run by Mickaël Hardouin, Maurice's son.
Under his leadership, the estate has won numerous awards and is recognised for its respect for tradition and biodiversity. In 2012, the estate was certified in Organic Agriculture by Ecocert, and in 2021 it will also be certified in Biodynamic Agriculture by Demeter. This transition to biodynamic viticulture reflects a philosophy of vineyard management based on natural cycles and the surrounding biodiversity.
The estate stands out for its rigorous ecological approach, limiting the use of sulphur and copper in the vines and reducing the dose of sulphites in the cellar.
Domaine Les Clos Maurice wines are highly regarded for their quality, with cuvées such as ‘La Licorne’ in Saumur Blanc and various versions of Saumur Champigny, such as La Pièce d'Or or Midi.
