2008 Château l'Apolline, Bordeaux, France, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Three-quarters of the small vineyard of 4 hectares is dedicated to the production of this grand cru wearing the name of the owners' third daughter, Apolline (The owners are Perrine and Philippe Genevey). The vines are planted with two-thirds of Merlot and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon on gravelly soils. This hot and stony soil is very promising with a wonderful quality potential . The subsoil consists of clay and limestone.

The average age of the vines is 40 years. The viticulture is what we call 'reasonable'. The grapes are harvested by handpicking. There is a limited production of 14,000 bottles. Fermentation is done in concrete tanks followed by aging in oak barrels, one third of which is renewed every year.

Steeped in history, the city of Saint- Emilion, listed as World Heritage by UNESCO , is also famous for its wine. It gives its name to two appellations: Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion grand cru, whose area covers nine municipalities. The name 'Saint-Emilion Grand Cru' is not determined by localization or by a specific grape variety: a jury awards it after a second tasting and after approval.
